MEDIA AND EDUCATION:
THE NEW FACE OF CONSERVATION

This will be a wonderful and fun public awareness campaign that embodies an overall educational awareness program in a spirit similar to the hugely successful "Give a Hoot, Don't Pollute" and "Got Milk" campaigns, mindful of the idea that people want to be entertained, engaged and enlightened with an objective and neutral approach.

"Hollywood needs to do more... Let's continue to take risks. Let's tackle the issues. In many ways our film community can do it better than anyone else. There is no challenge, artistic or otherwise, that we can't meet."
- Christopher Reeve

Areas of Focus:

  • Promoting the new hero -
PSA's billboards, paid advertisements, celebrity endorsements, film, broadcast, video, print, etc. will spotlight the efforts of "real people" in conservation who are making a difference today and feature celebrity "How to's." This initiative will teach the practical acts of conservation we can do at home, at school, and at the office.
  • Education -
Standards-based K-6 curricula, created in consort with classroom teachers, energizing students' awareness of and enthusiasm for learning about energy and resource conservation. Included in this plan is transitional communication and cooperation among elementary teachers and science programs.
  • Art, History, and Culture - The rural community of Cotton Plant, Arkansas has recently been awarded, through the Conservation Counts! Campaign, a full Arts Library. Donated by Los Angeles philanthropist Z. Clark Branson, featuring over a thousand videotapes and DVD's; a variety of art objects, and a large collection of liberal arts books. Cotton Plant is the first community to benefit from Conservation Counts! Campaign's commitment to revitalization as America's Heartland model.
